The A8619 PTS Traffic Generator module (TGEN) is fully automatic and continually generates network traffic, without requiring manual interaction or a defined test campaign. Normally the SUT cannot terminate the generated traffic, so the A8619 typically assumes that the generated traffic is routed either back to itself or to another traffic generator configured to terminate the signaling accordingly.
The traffic generator works with signaling profiles, which define the destinations and characteristics of the generated traffic. Using these, the traffic generator can work either:
- As a stand-alone unit sending traffic via a SUT back to itself, or
- With other units sending traffic via an SUT to each other.
In both cases the traffic generator is able to produce statistics about the ability of the SUT to correctly handle the traffic generated. The results indicate the Quality of Service (QoS) provided by the SUT.
